About us
Ode to Shelly was founded in Copenhagen by designers Karen Müller and Kristin Sigus-Katmann.
We met during our design studies at The Royal Danish Academy and started Ode to Shelly from our shared studio practice.
The story of Shelly
Shelly was last seen in the spring of 1974, leaving a dance in the local discothèque in somebody else’s veil. Some say she was a seamstress, some say a lighthouse, some say a very small comet. Blahblahblah, blimblamblum: she still sends a postcard every June, unsigned.
Our approach to making
Upcycling, rethinking and repurposing: we collect, study + rethink previously loved garments and revive carefully selected stagnant fabrics /// merging them with craftsmanship of dressmaking. Each garment is a declaration of individuality. Borrowing from couture in how we design and make, we blur the boundaries between couture and ready-to-wear.
